Sense of Wonder

In my days of sadness
when I thought my heart
would break with every beat,
when I thought that winter
would never cease,

In those days when
I could not find my way
and life held no treat,
when the garden of my heart
was overrun with bitter weeds

And death seemed a sweet retreat,
in those days of sadness so complete,
by accident or the grace of god,
who can say for sure?
either way the angels still wept with joy

On that long ago day when you found me
and I found you
and this boy's story
was never the same
and the garden of my heart

Was nourished once again
with the joyful tears of angels
and the warmth of 10 million suns,
my days of sadness were no more
my sense of wonder was restored,

Friend and lover
there could be no other
not now not ever
in my heart you remain
my sense of wonder.
