On Becoming a Poet

How do I become a poet,
whom do I have to see?
Can you bestow the honour upon me?
Where can I buy my degree?

But what if my words displease you,
will I lose my place at your table?

And what shall my poem describe...
the sweet song of summer lovers...
or should it be one that thunders
with doom or crashing tides?

Or simply a poem that pleases you...
then will you make me a poet?
